BIBTEX CHECKER

Check BibTeX records before your bibliography does.

Upload a BibTeX file and preview the records CiteWise can convert into a common citation model. Then verify the underlying scholarly identity instead of assuming a syntactically valid entry is bibliographically correct.

Evidence stays attached to the record.

The original input is preserved while provider matches, field evidence, and unresolved conflicts remain visible for review.

How this workflow works

  1. 01

    Import records

Upload a .bib file and let the parser identify entries, keys, fields, and malformed values.

  2. 02

    Review metadata

Inspect normalized titles, authors, years, identifiers, and warnings in a compact preview.

  3. 03

    Verify identity

Run provider matching to find duplicates, conflicts, missing identifiers, and candidate corrections.

What CiteWise checks

  • BibTeX entry keys and record boundaries
  • Common title, author, year, journal, booktitle, pages, publisher, and DOI fields
  • Duplicate or near-duplicate works after normalization
  • Provider evidence kept separate from parser output and AI suggestions

Important limitations

  • Some custom BibTeX macros and unusual field conventions may produce warnings.
  • A missing DOI is not automatically an error; many valid works do not have one.
  • Verification quality depends on provider coverage and the completeness of the input record.

Does a valid BibTeX entry mean the citation is correct?

No. BibTeX syntax only describes how a record is written; it does not prove that the title, authors, year, venue, pages, or DOI identify the intended work. CiteWise separates import parsing from scholarly verification so you can see both parse warnings and provider-backed evidence.
